Two time capsules were buried with the occasion of the world fairs in New York, in 1939 and 1964. Although they are scheduled to be opened only in 6939, the internet offers information about their content.
The capsules are bullet-shaped; they are 2.29 meters long and have a diameter of about 21 cm.
The first capsule contains 35 items that serve for everyday use, 75 types of textiles and documents recorded on microfilm and a 15-minute news journal.
The second capsule contains items grouped into five major categories: common use, atomic energy, scientific developments, outer space and others. The last category includes recordings of voices, sounds and famous songs and over 50,000 pages of information on 16 mm microfilm.
The first capsule was sealed on September 23, 1938, the day of the autumnal equinox and the second capsule was added on October 16, 1965, the last day of the Fair.
