The 1967 Eldorado was the source of inspiration for the Elmiraj, according to Clay Dean, the design director of Cadillac.

The engine of the Cadillac Elmiraj is a projected version of the twin turbo 6 cylinders, which has been expanded into a V8 form and has been rated at 500 horsepower. Another genuine innovation is the logo, the crest of the Cadillac being removed and simplified a lot.
