Bangkok is the most visited city this year, according to MasterCard Global Destination Cities Index 2013, because of the increasing interest for the entire region Asia Pacific.
Bangkok managed to overpass the number one touristic location from last year – London, with 25.000 visitors. The top of the list also features Paris, Singapore and New York.
It’s remarkable how the Asia Pacific region dominates the ranking. From a total of 132 cities, 32 are from Asia. Bangkok is followed by Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Seul, Shanghai, Tokyo, and five cities from Top 10 2013 are located in the region greater China.
About Bangkok’s number one ranking, Mr. Thawatchai Arunyik, Deputy Governor for Domestic Marketing, Tourism Authority of Thailand said, “The Thailand tourism slogan – ‘Amazing Thailand Always Amazes You’ – is certainly apt as its capital, Bangkok, has emerged at the top of this year’s index. And the word ‘Amazing’ focuses on the interest of foreign tourists towards the country of Thailand. What a tribute this is to our city’s hospitality industry, the transport industry and food and beverage and catering industry and more.”
