Spruce Creek – The Residential Airpark Where Everybody Owns an Airplane
Spruce Creek in Northeast Florida is a residential airpark or a fly-in community that includes 5,000 residents, 1,300 homes and 700 hangars. This is the place where instead of garages, most of the houses have a hangar and their driveways lead directly to a 4,000-by-150-foot runway with GPS approach.
Spruce Creek is like a paradise that offers an 18-hole golf course, several flying clubs, rental aircraft and flight training and 24-hour patrolled security, everything for its inhabitants.
The American actor and pilot John Travolta lived at the airpark for many years but he needed to move out after his neighbors complained about the tremendous noise generated by his Boeing 707, a former Quantas Airline jet previously owned by Frank Sinatra.
Most of the people that live in Spruce Creek are professional pilots and they talk in aviation jargon. Others are doctors, lawyers and land speculators but they all are mad about aviation.
