One World Trade Center is officially the tallest building in the U.S., according to a decision taken yesterday by a committee of architects. The new building with a height of 541 meters has exceeded Willis Tower in Chicago, according to Huffington Post.
Height Committee of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, recognized as a global authority regarding building heights, decided this week that the antenna on the top of One World Trade Center tower is part of the construction. A series of debates on this issue have been initiated by those who consider that the antenna that makes the One World Trade Center be taller than Willis Tower shouldn’t be taken into account.
Without it, the building would be 416 meters tall, which is the height of the twin towers that were destroyed in the terrorist attack 9/11.
The first skyscraper in the world appeared in Chicago, in 1884. One World Trade Center is not yet completed and will be officially opened next year. It was built on the site of the former World Trade Center, but cannot be compared to the tallest building in the world, Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which is 830 meters tall.
