The Danish company Lego has installed on Thursday in Times Square, New York, a natural size copy of the famous hunting spaceship X-Wing from the movies of the series “Stars Wars”.
This is the largest model ever made from the famous multicolored pieces shaped like bricks.
The ship, exposed on Thursday, is comprised of over 5.3 million Lego pieces, it weighs 20 tones and it took 17,000 hours of work, being performed by 32 people.
“We’ve built pretty large things for Lego but this is the biggest so far”, said Erik Varszegi, Lego engineer, at the unveiling ceremony of the layout, to the delight of many curious and tourists, who attended the event.
Its assembling lasted for over a year. The ship was first conceived in the Czech Republic, send by ship in the United States, assembled in three large pieces in New Jersey, then it arrived by truck in New York, Times Square, on the night of Wednesday to Thursday.
