MYO is a new control system of the devices and the cars around us, which operates approximately like the Kinect sensor from Microsoft. The difference consists in the fact that it can be used anywhere and it doesn’t need a central module.
Minority Report is a 2002 movie which remains one of the ideals of the control systems from the future: a series of curved screens permit operating from a distance through hand gestures, in an interface which, once analyzed attentively, can be seen as a nightmare. MYO produced by Thalmic Labs, promises a new control system for the devices that we already own, whether we’re talking about a laptop, a gaming console or of a micro-drone.
The device is practically a bracelet with sensors which monitors the hand movements and the muscle responses to transmit commands in a natural way, as can be seen in the video below.
The connection to the controlled device is made via Bluretooth 4.0 and the compatible devices include PCs, MACs and iOS and Android devices. Thalamic Labs have already sold 25000 MYO sensors in the first round of pre-orders at the price of 149$.
