BMW announces 1-Series Coupe version under a new name – Series 2. The model differs from Series 1 by several design details and features a more generous interior space and the top version, 235i, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/ h in 4.8 seconds!
BMW continues the tradition of a coupe in the compact class but launches, for the first time, the name of Series 2. The main aesthetic differences are found on the exterior, where the front and rear have been remodeled. LED taillights are standard amenities. The body is also with over 10 cm longer in the front compared to the Series 1, which allowed obtaining more comfort for passengers and also a more spacious trunk (+20 liters).
At the debut, Series 2 receives five diesel and gasoline engines. The basic version comes equipped with a 2.0 liter twin-turbo petrol engine and 184 hp. For diesel amateurs, BMW has prepared a twin-turbo 2.0-liter available in three power versions of 143 hp (218d), 184 hp (220d) and 218 hp (225d). The top of the range, 235i, receives a twin-turbocharged 6-cylinder engine of 326 hp thanks to which it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5 seconds if it’s equipped with a manual gearbox, respectively in 4.8 seconds if it has automatic drive. The maximum speed is electronic limited at 250 km/h.
Kinship with Series 1 meant taking all technical systems, which guarantee a sporty and safe behavior. Series 2 has a center of gravity lowered by 10 mm, thing that promises a superior road holding compared to Series 1. The driving style can be set from the board in four ways: Comfort, Sport, ECO PRO and Sport+. On the equipment list are the already known packages from Series 1, including the M package that comes with its own exterior color – blue “Estoril”.
