Beautiful Cliffside Town of Tropea
Tropea is a famous seaside resort located in the region of Calabria, in the south of Italy, being also a highly appreciated bathing place. The gulf of St. Euphemia protects the town perched on top of an imposing cliff.
The town can be characterized as a maze of little lanes and piazzas, cobbled streets and old buildings made from golden stone.
A large outcrop jutting into the sea that can be seen a few hundred meters from the town is considered to be the most famous view of Tropea. Some buildings that are worth visiting are Santa Maria dell’Isola, the Norman Cathedral and the churches of San Francesco and Santa Maria della Neve.
According to an old legend, Tropea was found by Hercules, when he returned after completing one of the 12 labors.
